Q: I want to learn martial arts but I don't want
to go to work with bruises the next day?
A:
We cater for the majority, who want to learn martial arts and kickboxing
for fun, fitness and self defence. Therefore any contact in classes is always
very light and controlled.
Q: Can I train in more than one type of class at a time?
A: The martial arts we have chosen to teach at the school
compliment each other and flow very nicely together, creating a good blend,
which covers all distance ranges of combat.
Q: Do I have to wear a uniform or other special gear?
A: We don't have a conventional uniform as such, we have
school t-shirts and sweat pants/ tops etc. There is no obligation to wear
our gear but most students like the designs.
Q: Am I too young?
A: You can never start too early, we run various types
of classes, which suit all ages, however, we do not yet run classes for
children below the age of 15 as yet.
Q: Am I too old?
A: The class atmosphere is friendly and open, which allows
people of all ages to work at their own pace and ability. We will try
to push you to your limits not everyone else's.
Q: Am I fit enough?
A: The only way to answer this question is to simply
come and try a class. However, fitness is different for everyone, so we
allow people to work as hard as they want to. The instructor does of course
appreciate any effort and we try to make sure that everyone gets a workout
that suits them.
Q: Are the classes suitable for beginners without any previous
martial arts experience?
A: No previous martial arts experience is necessary;
our qualified team of instructors is able to cater for any level and they
will help to expand your knowledge of the arts.
Q: Do you have a grading/belt system?
A: We have what we call a phase system, which is more
of a goal setting than a grading system as such. You can test in 5 different
areas, Filipino Boxing, Kali Weaponary, Muay Thai Kick Boxing, Jun Fan
Gung Fu/JKD concepts and Grappling/Submission Arts. There are 10 levels
to each Art, to get your phase one for example, you have to pass level
one in all four areas. Our gradings are fully recognised by the Minnesota
Kali Group in Minneapolis, USA.
Q: Do I have to bring a
training partner?
A: No, many people come along individually and train
amongst each other, for example to make new friends whilst having a workout.
